Lumbar disc prolapse
Between every two vertebrae there is cartilage, and the cartilage is a fibrous ring that contains a gelatinous substance. There was a hole in the fibrous ring and the gelatinous material came out. Here we see the nerves responsible for nourishing the legs, and at the same level at each cartilage there are two nerves, one for the right leg and the other for the left leg. In most cases, the cartilage presses on one of the nerves, and the patient feels severe pain that reaches the foot and increases when coughing or walking. These symptoms are called “sciatica.” These symptoms do not represent a great danger and can be treated with conservative treatment, and conservative treatment succeeds in 80% of people.
